FOG CITY RECORDS ALL-STAR SHOW
"BIG NIGHT OUT #1"
December 29, 2000

THE PARTY'S OVER (BUT THE SHOW HAS JUST BEGUN!)

If you haven't heard, the show was as incredible as anticipated. Surprise guests included Cochemea Gastelum of the 20th Congress, John Ellis (Charlie Hunter's current sax man), and Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule, Phil Lesh, Allman Bros). But the real surprise of the night was the incredibly enthusiastic crowd -- from the stage, we saw nothing but a sea of smiling faces looking straight ahead all night. It's inspiring, and something we should all be proud of, that a night of mostly instrumental and improvised music can draw such a large, energetic and attentive crowd.

Our humble thanks for the patience of a few brave and faithful souls who camped out in front of the club starting at 9 AM, hoping for one of the few tickets reserved for day-of-show sales (we were able to admit everyone who was waiting in line as of 5 PM that day).

If you're hungry for more details, check out the show review on jambase.com. There are also some GREAT photos of the show online here.

Our charity auction for 2 pair of tickets raised over $260 for the New Orleans Louisiana Musician's Clinic. Again, our thanks to all who bid so generously for those tickets. The money will help a very worthy cause.

We plan more all-star summits in the future -- if you'd like to make sure you get early warning, join the Fog City mailing list.

Fog City Records is proud to present the event of the season!

Some of the best musicians we've worked with, on stage at the same time.
Performing together for the first time ever:

STANTON MOORE

ROBERT WALTER

SKERIK

with special guest appearances by:

CHARLIE HUNTER

CHRIS STILLWELL

Facing off for a no-holds-barred throwdown. A quadrangle of funk.

PLUS! JUST ANNOUNCED - EXTRA OPENING SET from:

MOFRO

We've just added a bonus early opening set: Fog City recording artists MOFRO will make their west coast premiere, performing tracks from their upcoming debut album (to be released on Fog City Records in April). Mofro's JJ, Daryl and Fabrice will flying in from Florida to appear onstage with members of the 20th Congress rhythm section -- George Sluppick and Robert Walter. A few months back, George took some time out of the 20th Congress' busy tour schedule to play drums for the Mofro sessions; Robert made a cameo appearance on keyboards. Arrive early and catch their reunion!

Again, we boldly say, this will be the show of the season. Come feed the frenzy!

Hopefully, this will be the first in a series presented by Fog City Records under the name BIG NIGHT OUT. Future shows will feature adventurous and unique combinations of players you already know and some you should know. It would be nice to get your support then, even if you dont recognize all the names in the lineup. Just jump at the first chance for tickets!!

In any case, SF is the place to be this NYE!

NO TAPING. This show will be recorded for a possible release on Fog City Records. As such, there will be NO TAPING allowed (audio, video, mic, soundboard or stealth). Keep in mind that in 4 years of operation, we have invited you to tape thousands of shows; this is a very rare exception to the rule. We do support and appreciate tapers in general, and respectfully ask for your understanding with this show. Leave your gear at home, but come on down and have a great time with us! (If you know anyone who's planning to bring their recording equipment to Bimbo's, please pass this message along to them. We want to avoid unnecessary stress on a night that should be fun for all. Thanks!)

A NOTE TO OUR FANS: Due to the other New Years' commitments of the musicians in this all-star lineup, we may not be able to advertise their names in print. As such, this show will appear in the local papers and on flyers as simply "Fog City Records Special Event" or something similar.

UPDATE 12/6/00 1:00 PM PST:

Do you need tickets? Advance tickets are now sold out. At this point, only Bimbo's 365 Club has any tickets left. Bimbo's will be selling "a limited amount" of tickets at the box office starting at 8 PM on the day of show (12/29/00). Exactly how early you'll have to get to the show is anyone's guess. In any case, those are now the only tickets left and the club will only start selling them when the doors open at 8 PM (cash only, no credit cards, $20 per ticket). If you have further questions about those day of show tickets, you should call Bimbo's directly.

Tickets went on sale at 10 AM PST Thursday 11/30/00, and nearly sold out in an hour! The response exceeded our wildest expectations. We have been getting many messages from fans that missed the narrow window of opportunity, and are looking for help in locating tickets (or just an outlet to vent their understandable frustration). Please understand that this was meant to be an inclusive celebration of Fog City values -- musicianship, friendship and the pursuit of excellence. It turns out there are lots more supporters out there than we thought, and the phenomenal demand for tickets is unfortunately making it a bit of an an exclusive event. We don't like seeing anyone left out!

A block of tickets was held by Fog City Records in case of a desperate ticket situation like this. We offered these tickets to our supporters (people who have bought something from the Fog City online store, or joined the Fog City mailing list) through emails sent out at 9 PM PST 11/30/00 -- but they are ALL GONE. (Sorry, they are all gone. Really.) If you are one of the lucky people who got a pair of those tickets, you need to show up at Bimbo's box office BEFORE THE DAY OF THE SHOW with your I.D. and purchase them for $18.50 each (the box office is open 10 AM - 4 PM, Monday thru Friday, and they accept Visa and MasterCard but NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS).

As previously announced on this web page (and in a bulletin emailed to members of the Fog City mailing list), fifty (50) tickets were held by Bimbo's for sale through Ticketweb.com starting 10 AM on Sunday December 3rd. As predicted, these sold in a matter of minutes; at 10:03 AM that day they were all gone.

PLEASE NOTE: Fog City Records cannot hook you up with advance tickets. Please don't ask... we've been really swamped with requests and we can't hook you up.

For future Big Night Out events, we may ONLY offer tickets to people who have joined the Fog City mailing list or bought something from the Fog City online store. Do one or the other now, if you haven't yet. This is not meant to shut anyone out, but to make sure we have a means of directly contacting everyone interested in these shows with accurate information in the future, and to make sure they get tickets in a fair and appropriate manner.

If there are any changes to this information, it will be posted to this web page. Please bookmark this page and refer back to it if necessary. Thanks!
