Fog City Records
accepts unsolicited demo material.
Please keep in mind the following:
We are currently looking for committed acts that do not rely on samples
and are ready to record and tour
(take a look at
the current tour plans of our roster).
Despite the somewhat jaded comments that follow below, we
remain pretty enthusiastic about finding good bands.
Before you ask any record label to consider your music, first have an idea of what the label does
and the kinds of bands it's worked with in the past.
We specialize in music with roots, and are interested in the connection between regional culture
and the music that it generates. Our interest is in preserving some of America's disappearing
traditions while finding paths to the future.
In the past this has meant New Orleans funk, north Floridian
"front porch soul", North Louisiana swamp blues,
southern California groove jazz, and northern California soul.
The common thread is soulful music played in real time with three-dimensional
instruments by real human beings.
Our artists page should give you a
representative cross-section. These days we are most interested in singers with meaningful lyrics
and a groovy backing band.
We mean no offense, as it's a matter of personal taste, but if your music is
noodly jam rock,
bounce and jangle,
jamgrass,
easy listening,
quiet storm,
soft rock,
hard rock,
death rock,
hardcore,
noise pop,
europop,
industrial,
grunge,
heavy metal,
speed metal,
gothic,
house,
rockabilly,
swing,
polka,
new age,
modern classical,
modern country,
Kenny G style smooth jazz,
80's style fusion heavy on the DX7,
synth-heavy Miami Vice type music,
etc.
you will probably be wasting your time with us.
The following are some of our major musical turn offs:
"original" songs that include the phrase
"down in old new orleans"
slap and pop bass
(one exception: Larry Graham)
1990's synths
that sound like a guitar (or vice versa).
Please don't ask us to listen to sound clips off of your web site,
and don't email us MP3 files.
Put your best foot forward by sending an actual cd.
Please supply an E-Mail address. Do YOU write a hand-written letter
to everyone who sends something in the mail?
We're busy trying to support our latest release.
If you don't hear from us, please don't take it personally.
