FROM THE EDITOR
Filling the gap left by the mainstream American music media, we will reach across the USA to cover the continuing return of jazz to the masses. No longer merely a pastime for intellectuals or backdrop for expensive dining, jazz is back where it belongs - moving the dancefloor and riding the air waves.'Acid Jazz' is an expression which is at once both uncomfortably fashionable and embarrasingly uncool, used too much by some and never at all by others. However, instead of trying to come up with a pretentious phrase of our own, we at On The One have decided to stick with the devil we know. You may, therefore, catch us using the phrase acid jazz. Don't panic. You and I will know that this is only shorthand, a woefully inadequate way to describe the dizzying array of jazz, soul, rare groove, funk, latin and afro-cuban rhythms that make up our scene.
Steps ahead of the rest, we will fill you in on upcoming events, news from across the sea and tips on building the classic record collection. We will check out the club scene, profile DJ's and bands, and pay respect to our jazz heroes. With great writers, photographers and artists we will keep you On The One.
